DARG: EARTHLINGS screening tomorrow night in Cape Town

The Labia Theatre has been given permission to screen the documentary EARTHLINGS... and has kindly offered to donate all proceeds to DARG!

Tickets cost only R30.00 and EMI has promised to supply some Moby CD's as give-aways. Pre-booking will be necessary - please call The Labia Theatre on 021 424 5927.

EARTHLINGS is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research)but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers." The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee JOAQUIN PHOENIX (Gladiator / Walk The Line) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist MOBY.

Kindly support us and invite all your friends, colleagues and family members to do likewise. All funds raised from tickets purchased (even if one does not attend the screening) will be used to pay for medication and Vets bills.

Please come along to the annual D.A.R.G. ADOPT-A-THON and support us in our efforts to raise
much-needed funds for all the abandoned and abused animals we rescue, sterilize, care for and try to re-home. Whether you wish to adopt a pet or not, please pop in and take a walk through our lovely cat gardens, feral park and newly-built kennels to see how donations help us improve the lives of all the animals in our care.

We have a number of fun and exciting events planned for the day:
➢ Sand Sculpting Demo W.P. Dog-jumping Demonstration The Bird Man
➢ Idols Contest Entertainment (Heather de Wit), DJ Watering Hole
➢ Art Competition Face Painting Jumping Castle
➢ Book Stall Tombola Stall Bric-a-Brac
➢ Donkey Rides in our newly-established petting farm, Noah's Ark Educational
Park, where children of all ages can cuddle the cutest piglets, guinea pigs, bunnies and also see our two-month old calf!

Light meals and refreshments will also be on sale. Please support us! Entrance: R5.00 per person. You can make a difference...

Children:
1. Participate in the D.A.R.G. Idols Contest – enquire and enter on the day.
2. Enter the D.A.R.G. Art Competition. Draw a picture of your favourite animal, write your name,
age and telephone number on the back of your entry and drop it off at D.A.R.G. together with
R10.00 by no later than Friday, 23rd May 2008.
Volunteers: We need help walking the dogs, socialising puppies, grooming cats and cuddling
kittens. If you can give a little love and attention to our animals, please pop in between 9am and
4pm on any day.

It is getting towards that time when children are finishing school and getting ready for thier longest holidays, and families are starting to get into the festive spirit - all the more reasons why you should consider adopting a loving dog from DARG!

Here are some beautiful animals who are waiting for a devoted family to come and pick them out of a crowd:

JOEY : 2 yr old Daschund X (w/long legs), housetrained and good with other dogs. Very friendly and energetic. Owners couldn't keep.

STORM : Approx. 7 years old Staffie. Found as a stray, never claimed. Very sweet and placid. Generally good with other dogs. No cats!

RINGO : 2 yr old X breed. Found as a stray, along with his mate Beth. Ringo is clever and alert and super affectionate He'd love an active family to love!

MARX : Adorable wire haired Jack Russel. Very loving and cuddly. Looking for loving owners! Good with other dogs. No cats (obviously ...)

GINA : 7 month old Africanis, gorgeous long tall beauty. Needs basic training. Affectionate and alert! Would suit busy active household.

GROUCHO : Hello! I'm Groucho, a wire haired lab X type dog. I'm a little energetic and need training. The good news is that I'm clever and eager to learn! Anyone looking for a devoted buddy to go on lots of outings with! I promise it will be fun ..

FRODO: Sweet Lurcher X, young, good with kids and other dogs. Found as a stray - never claimed.

DARG APPEAL: adopt a pet today

I have received an email from the DARG group in Cape Town with four beautiful pets that need a loving home.

TAZZ is a 5 year old Collie X, big gorgeous friendly boy, crazy about the ball. His owner brought him to DARG along with his sister (who has since been adopted) after moving to a flat. He had clearly not had the attention he deserved. He was not used to going for walks and DARG's volunteers worked hard to get him used to a colar and lead. He now walks well, but is still a bit nervous in new situations. He is also quite bouncy and playful and needs to learn to basic Big Dog Etiquette (No jumping, etc)!

He would preferably suit a family with no kids, and with lots of time and love. Those who know him know he is worth the effort!

EVE - 4 year old staffie cross female. She was used as a puppy machine but now she is spayed and ready to be the baby of her own family

FIFI - Fluffy black and white - young - a bit shy at first but soon comes around.

KAREN- Fluffy ginger, approx 3 years, affectionate. Needs a quiet home.
